As has been said several times, currently, Sky LLU is not throttled or shaped to any noticeable extent e.g. I've seen well seeded torrents go past 1100Kbit/s on my connection and I'm sure others with a full 16meg Max connection have seen higher.

Have you tried encryption yet with Connect?

^^^ Yup. Fedora 8 (for all the good it's worth - seems not to work very well with vmware) downloaded in minutes at 1.6 megabytes per second.

Yes, on level 2 from the link you sent. It does seem to be a bit better, nothing startling though. I was waiting to evaluate it for longer before I posted back.
      Thanks.
I'll let you know if it gets better or if I try different settings.

      Re: P2P throttling?

Have tried a few more multi-seed torrents on that setting and it does seem much better - had over 200kbits/s on one yesterday.
      Thanks for all the help.

      Re: P2P throttling?

Can someone please tell me if Newsgroups/binary downloads would be affected by the throttling in the same way as the torrent clients.

I have just been forced to change from Sky Mid to Sky Connect due to my line being migrated to a new exchange.

This migration is a major positive for me in the sense that the old exchange was so far from my house and full, that my max connection speed was 160kps !

On the new exchange I will get around 3MB maybe more but this won't be as beneficial to me if I cant use the torrent clients without being throttled.

I haven't used newsgroups before and was wondering if they could/would also be throttled in the same way as P2P ?

Don't get me wrong im not a download addict but do use the torrents quite regularly.

      Any help appreciated.

      Re: P2P throttling?

I was going to say what bad luck then saw that your line is now much shorter. Let's hope the new exchange is LLU soon

Download speeds can be a bit of an issue with Connect - that's "normal" downloads at peak times and P2P for much of the time. Some improvements can be seen if torrent traffic is encrypted so you might try that (with a suitable client - see above posts).

I'm not sure about newsfeeds and Connect. I don't recall reading that they are throttled but may just have missed that.
