      Intermitent Disconnection

      Hey all,

      For about 9 months now my connection has been pretty much perfect. In August we were moved to the Mid package from connect and it's worked fine, until the past 2 weeks.

      Now, for the past 2 weeks we seem to be getting a lot of random disconnects, sometimes it will reconnect it's self soon after, sometimes it will lose the modem connection completely and other it's will take 15/20 minutes before it will connect again.

      Typically, the router stops working so this time I decide to phone sky, and low and behold it starts working as soon as I pick up the phone.

      So, anybody any suggestions? Nothing has changed at all to my knowledge that would cause the random disconnects, haven't moved anything or connected anything up differently. At the weekend we got sky+ installed, but this has been going on for a week before then atleast.

      And yet it was all working so fine before hand. Router stats below:

      Filters on the Sky digiboxes? Connected any new phones? As you say you have not been connected long enough for the stats to tell anything.

      Re: Intermitent Disconnection

      Put a new filter on the digibox, but as said before it was happening before that was installed.

      No new phones connected, turned off one of the cordless phones thinking it might be something to do with the REN, but it had worked fine for months before that.

      I'll leave it a couple of hours and see if it stays connected or not. Maybe try changing all the filters to the other set I've got and see if there's anything amiss there.

      Cheers,

      Jeffers

      Well we just had another one of the random disconnects.

      Another set of stats below (don't know if they'll help or not, I didn't reboot the rooter this time, just changed the microfilters as the sky woman said to)

      seems a tad high to me for 9 mins
      you may want to do a comparison from your master socket and test socket

      Re: Intermitent Disconnection

      Hmmm, ok. Will try and do that tommorow then.

      Just had a third one (and sky's systems are down this time so that phone call didn't get anywhere). The last 15 minutes stats seem a little bit better. Would it count errored seconds if I'd unplugged the phone wire or is that just the transmission errors?

      Latest 15 minutes time = 14 min 26 sec
      SF = 45342
      CRC = 315

      Re: Intermitent Disconnection

      ^^^ i dont think thats to bad and should not cause a disconnect

      acn you log on the the router and open the "Show statitics" window keep an eye on the noise margin to see if if it is dropping below about 6db

      (Log in to router , show statistics is at the bottom of the settings page)

      Spooky! You going to prod my connection into working properly?

      I'll keep an eye on the Noise Margin, lowest I've ever seen it drop to is 9 I think, but I could be wrong. Still sitting at 10.3 at the moment though.

      Cheers for the help, I'll keep watching.

      i prodded my router with my new "devil" powers but all i could manage was to warm my router up (i did pop it on its side)

      Dohh, now my powers have gone i'll have to wait for post 999 and see if the police can help ! (or the fire brigade if i leave my router on its side)

      Re: Intermitent Disconnection

      haha!

      Well, another disconnect, this time the LCP went down again. Noise margin was sat at 10.5 / 14.0 db.

      Going to leave it for tonight now I think and maybe try sky again tomorrow night. Any other suggestion you've got to trying are very much welcomed though!

      Thanks again,

      Jeffers
