      What Speed

      Hi
Firstly I would just like to say hello to everyone as this is my first time on the site. I am thinking of changing over to Sky for my broadband but have a couple of questions.

      1) I am undecided which product to go for as at the moment I am getting around 2-3 meg on ADSL Max on an up to 8 meg service( I am about 3 KM from the Exchange) If this is all I can receive would I be likely to get any more on the Max product(up to 16 Meg) (after all there would not be much point paying the extra if my line could not support any more) I am on the Consett exchange & the tester says I can receive all products, its just I am unsure if the Max product uses ADSL 2,& is Consett ADSL 2 enabled .
When I phoned Sky the operator assured me I should be able to receive 16 Meg however I find this Impossible to believe. When I run the test it says I could get between 6-7 meg on ADSL 2 however as I said is Consett ADSL 2 enabled.
      2) Do Sky Throttle the use of p2p I am not a heavy user & have a total Download of around 10-12 GiG per month.
      any info would be appreciated.

You won't get 16mb not at that distance. 6-7mb is more like it

      As for which package

      Mid - 5 - 40gb cap - no shaping - 416 upload
      Max - 10 - unofficial 250gb cap - no shaping - 768 upload

      Only on the Connect package

      Re: What Speed

If you are only getting 2-3 Mb on ADSLMax, then the 3K you quote must be straight line. The line length is probably double that. I have to doubt if you would get much more than you do now. Your attenuation would give a better idea.

Like many, your internal wiring could probably stand improvement which would increase your stability and speed. Many think this only applies to Sky connections, but it doesn't. I have just doubled a friends TalkTalk speed, through doing a little wiring improvement.

      Re: What Speed

      Hi
I am 2.27 miles from the exchange as the crow flies. My attenuation is 49db downstream & 14.5 upstream all I was after was to know if I would be likely to be any better of on the 16mb option than I if I went for the 8mb product. My Exchange is LLu enabled. The sky personnel I spoke to said they could only guarantee up to 3.5Meg.
      Thanks for your time.

      Re: What Speed

As NR says and confirmed with the Sky Checker, on ADSL2+ the maximum you would get would be 6-7mb. However with an attenuation of 49 dbs Sky are very unlikely to allow 2+ on your line as it just would not be stable. They are more likely to put you on G.DMT which would probably give you about half that speed, just as they have quoted you. Unless you want the extra upload speed or the unlimited bandwidth allowance, you would be better off going for Mid.
