      Check my stats please!!!???

Hi I would like someone to check my router stats please as I have previously had problems with errors building up on the line causing disconnections and having to be capped at 3MB!!!!

The changes I have made are first of all I have got rid of the extension cabling which was 15/20 meters long and replaced it with a 4 metere long cable directly from the master socket. This wiring now goes to a filtered faceplate so I dont use a microfilter anymore. I hope it has made a difference but I suppose the stats will be the moment of truth.

Just so I get the right feedback on these stats Iam trying to provide as much information as possible, sorry if its not relevant. First of all I am on the Mid package and I live 1.77km from the nearest exchange (as the crow flies). According to Sky I should be able to get 4mb, which I am happy with but at the moment even that is not possible.

Below I have listed detailed router stats from before and after the wiring/faceplate changes:

      Before:

Looking at your stats, your noise margin has increased for the better, but your throughput is just the same as before.

you've been capped (prob from a previous call to Sky) and now you've found the cause of it you can get Sky to remove the cap....

Also, I don't see why you're run an extention to another NTE5 socket - why didn't you just use the existing socket and prefilter that with a 4m ethernet cable to the PC - would've been easier

      Re: Check my stats please!!!???

Hi thanks for your replies. I didnt run an extended ethernet cable as we dont have one of those NTE5 socket's as its quite an old property. The master socket to my house is located outside the front door then the wire runs into the house.

What do you think I should get the cap moved up to? Also what are the errors like on my line? Are they a lot better than before?

      Thanks

      Re: Check my stats please!!!???

its not so much the errors but the SNR going through the roof and max rate on the line being over 7Mbps that's the clincher....

you might benefit from getting BT to sort the wiring out but for now call Sky and get them to set the line to, say, 6Mbps and see if it stays stable

      Re: Check my stats please!!!???

^^^ I would ask for the cap to be removed. You could be connecting at around 7mb with those stats depending on your wiring.

thing is though, the error build up would still occur as he's not got a 'proper' master socket as it comes from a box outside the property - there's no point uncapping the line fully as it'll just cause more issues....with a proper nte5 socket fitted i wouldn't be surprised to see 8Mbps on the line...

Thanks guys for your replies. I think I will contact Sky to get the cap removed up to 6mb if they will. Can I install a NTE5 myself or would I need BT to do it?

      Thanks

its easy to do, just make sure you get the tool need to crimp the lines to the socket but its a 5 minute job
