      What speed should i expect?

Hi, i just had my BT line installed a couple days ago as i wanted to join SKY Broadband. The engineers told me that me total line length is 985 meters and that all of the line is copper with no aluminum connections. So i thought, perfect i will get some decent speeds. However when i went to a couple websites to check what my likely speed would be, they all show that i would only get 1MB? Is this a realistic figure or am i doing something wrong? I remember that when i called SKY to order my services i was told that after the installation i had to wait for 5 days before ordering broadband? Why is that?
      Thank you

BEcause the systems have to have time to update, it will take a few days for the info about your new, enabled line to go onto the database.
What info do you get here:

This is the worrying bit! Normally on a line this short ADSL2+ would be more than possible. It looks like you have a bad fault on the line or the engineer did not do his job properly. If you have extensions in the house, do the test again, this time plugged in to the Test socket, behind the Master Socket faceplate.

It could be that the line has not yet been setup properly and will improve in the next few days.

Re: What speed should i expect?

The 75db loss on your line is caused by your line being faulty for transfaring data. It mighnt be o.k. for voice but not for B.B. With those stats and a good line you will get ADSL2+ at the max speed. Personally i think you have to get your line sorted and then run the test again. You will need an Openreach engineer visit to get your line right, If they say it is testing o.k. go for the noise on line fault, as the tests cant find noise on a line, but an engineer can. The loss could also be down to your line being in contact with another line that is dead, but acting as an ariel on your line. Or just high resistance, whatever it needs sorting and then you will have stats that everyone will envy :-)

If you are on Connect, post your detailed stats and someone will give you an idea of what you can expect. You stats should be taken from the Test socket and if you don't have one, from your Master socket.

Re: What speed should i expect?

Well guys, thank you very much for all your replies but i located the problem. The reason that my stats were so bad was that it was a brand new line and i didn't leave enough time to register with the database. I ran the test today and the results are back to what i expected them to be. So now roll on Sky, get me connected
