      extremely intermittant connection

Hi all i have a strange situation with my SKY broadband dont know if its happened to anyone else ill explain

Got sky 2 weeks ago and had nothing but trouble, once connected you usually get around 10 minutes of surfing and then the connection seems to die, the connection is still being made with the router but cannot access the web, however the strange thing is MSN messenger still runs and if you were downloaign before the cut off happenes, it still seems to download as if nothing has happened without a change in speed even though you cannot surf the web.
To fix this you must reboot the router and i think since we have got it we must have rebooted it over 200 times

dont know if it is connected but our downoload speed is abyismal, on the mid package we are only receiving a download rate of around at max 50kb/s and the online speed test says our download rate is 500kb/s far cry from the 6 meg we were told we capable of getting, althogu in the router settings it says we have a downstream connection speed of 7456kb/s therfore im totally confused

we have connected the router direct to the test socket in the house, nothing else attached and the same thing happens on both the wired and wireless connection.

I dont have a clue whats happening anyone shed some light?

What router do you have? If it is the old one (white) go into the router settings and disable UPnP. This has been known to cause problems.

Then download and run TCPOptimiser on your PCs.

Yeh i have read on this site about the UpNp i had already turned it off and ran the TCP optimizer, happens on all of the computers in the house, however if you are just using the one computer it seems far more reliable albeit witht eh rubbish download speeds however when 2 or more computers try connect things seem to go haywire, not too sure why

Maybe you should run for about 24 hours then post your stats. Plug in directly to the Test socket, (filter only, no extension), and run for another 24 hours, then post the updated stats.
