      router trouble

Hi,my friend is having a problem with his sky broadband and needs some help.He uses it for xbox live primarily but for internet aswell and last night his xbox live connection went down and wouldn't sign back in so he tried connecting to the internet on his laptop and that wouldn't work either(he uses a wireless connection).

Today he tried a wired connection to the laptop and it connected(although extremely slow) and tried to access his router but it wont let him access it with the usual sky-admin username and password,it just comes up with an authorisation warning.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be?would appreciate any help. Thanks

      Re: router trouble

Mine did similar a few days ago.

A restart of the router sorted it!

Has he tried pushing a pin in the reset button on the back of the router?

      Re: router trouble

How long did he hold the reset button in for? I would try powering the router off completely for 5 mins and try again. If that doesn't do anything hold the reset button in for at least 10 seconds. Failing that call TS

      Re: router trouble

Just something to consider, does he have proper security set up on his router? If he hasn't, this could account for the un/pw not working. If someone entered the network illegally, it may not be beneath them to change the login on the router. Resetting the router by pushing something in the little hole for a few seconds should reset it back to default. Tell him to try that and also use the full address, ie, http://192.168.0.1/start.htm. Something else that sometimes works is powering off the router for between 40 -60 mins, no more no less. I have no idea why this should work, but it once did with mine.
