      Excellent connection but poor throughput

      Hi,
I've been with Sky Max for 10 days now and although I have a good negotiated connection speed - 15323 kbps, the maximum download speed I can achieve on test pages (Broadbandmax.co.uk) is 8120 Kbps. These tests were done using the test socket, i have spoken to tier 3 who are sending a new router, however I wonder if it is more likely to be a line problem. I have posted my stats below; any advice would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried other speed tester sites?

Try the following to see if your results are comparable to Broadbandmax.co.uk or not.

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Re: Excellent connection but poor throughput

Hmm, that is a bit odd. Normally I would say that the cause of this would be errors on your line but you do not have too many to speak of.

All I can say is wait and see if the new router does it any good.

I expect somebody else may be able to shed further light on this though

Re: Excellent connection but poor throughput

Think I may have cured this myself. Changed the DNS settings on my PC to use Open DNS (208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220) and gained an extra 4mb on my download speed. Hope this helps others.

Re: Excellent connection but poor throughput

      Hi,
You need to go to network connections select your network card or wireless NIC, select Internet protocol(TCP/IP) then click on properties. In the box the pops up select use the following DNS server addresses and input :
      Preferred 208.67.222.222
      Alternate 208.67.220.220
