    Excellent connection but poor throughput

    This is a discussion on Excellent connection but poor throughput within the Sky Broadband help forums, part of the Sky Broadband help and support category; ok give it a go but what does it all mean sorry for being dumb thanx...

      Here's a guide if you do not feel too confident, choose the computer one, then your operating system

      DNS is what computers use to surf to websites etc.

      Every single website you see is on a PC somewhere in the world. However each PC that serves websites are viewed by their IP address. DNS changes the IP address into a website URL so to speak or in simple words, tells your browser that a website with the URL skyuser.co.uk is to be found on the PC which has an IP of 85.10.136.226

      So when you type in skyuser.co.uk in your browser the internet then knows to look on the PC that has the IP 85.10.136.226 and then the website magically appears.

      If that makes sense.
