      Here is a list of some British time servers, (from an MS page).
      British Isles
      Dublin, Ireland: School of Mathematics, Trinity College
      ntp.cs.tcd.ie; ntp.maths.tcd.ie; ntp.tcd.ie
      Service Area: Ireland and U.K.
      Glasgow, Scotland: Strathclyde University
      ntp.cs.strath.ac.uk
      Service Area: U.K., Europe, and any
      Cambridge, U.K.
      ntp0.uk.uu.net; ntp1.uk.uu.net;
      ntp2.uk.uu.net
      Service Area: U.K.
      Manchester, England: University of Manchester
      ntp2a.mcc.ac.uk; ntp2b.mcc.ac.uk;
      ntp2c.mcc.ac.uk; ntp2d.mcc.ac.uk
      Service Area: U.K.

      The full World list is HERE
      There are others, for instance most of the main ISPs have time servers.

      If you have been unable to connect with the ones you have tried, I doubt if any will work. Have a look at this MS Article there are details given on how to use the Registry to set it up and other info.

      I had an issue with the sync time and the Cambridge one worked well for me. Cheers.

      I came across THIS when doing something unconnected. It may be worth installing it to see if it helps. It was a recommended update which would not be included in auto updates, unless you specifically requested it.

      That update is for the revised daylight savings time rules that they had this year in the USA. They extended the DST period by four weeks this year as their contribution to dealing with climate change.

      Re: Unable to synchronise date & time in Win XP since moving to Sky

      Now solved by disabling McAfee's firewall. So not an altogether satisfactory solution. Like Lee2007 I should be grateful if anyone could advise me of the changes I need to make in McAfee to solve the problem permanently.
      Do I need to run a software firewall anyway since the router has a firmware one built in?
      Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the solution.

      If you are behind a router, you do not need to run a firewall!

      I don't and have not done so for several years since being behind a router.

      Always have antivirus s/w though!

      I'm with dog-man on this - I don't see any great value in having a software firewall when you're behind a router - so I can't say exactly what you'll need to do get this working, but for the record, the "simple network time protocol" that Windows is using to set the time operates on UDP port 123, if that's any help.
