      new to sky bb

      hello all

just changed to sky bb mid package

      got it activated yesterday

      checked my line stats

im about 900ms from the exchange (give or take)

      line att 29db

noise from what I can remember is 8db

should I be able to get the full 8 meg

it shows 8029kbps on the router but from reading the forum im not meant to trust it.

also would I be able to bump up to the next package and make full use of the 16mb?

wicked sites and cheers for the help

Yes you should be able to get near the full 16mb with that attenuation, but your noise margin does look rather low, you should try your test socket for better noise margin results, then post your full stats.

      Re: new to sky bb

Mid is only 8mb. So it looks like you are getting what you are paying for.

      As for MAX

      ADSL2+ Speed Test
We estimate your line is capable of between 14mb to 16mb broadband on an ADSL2+ service.

      SkyUser - ADSL2 Line Speed Checker - upto 24mb

      thanks for the info

i tried my newsgroup last night and was getting around 830k to 840

      im well pleased

the only thing is now im going to eat that 40gb cap

because my noise margin is low say if i were to upgrade to the max package would i have trouble meeting top speed (thats if i could)

      thanks again

you'd benefit from a better upload and 'unlimited' downloads...with regards to speed, if you have a test socket try it there and see if SNR goes up. if so, once you get the wiring sorted you'd get near the full 16MB...

From this, I gather you have no hard wired extensions. If this is the case, there is no real advantage in using the test socket, which only helps by isolating hard wired extensions. Try it with the face on, if you do not get a very similar result, then your faceplate is faulty and should be replaced.

      Re: new to sky bb

Follow the link in my sig, download and install Mosseywell's utility. Once installed, this is the easiest way to obtain your stats. There is no need to download and convert cfg files.
