      Connection dead

      I've been without broadband for the past 12 hours, anyone else had the same problem (I'm currently on dial-up which now feels like torture).

      I'm in Newcastle-under-Lyme/Stoke-on-Trent area. I rang Sky and a woman with a strange accent told me there were problems with an exchange and I would have to wait until it was resolved. Is this likely to be true or am I just being fobbed-off? Presumably, others in the area must have lost their connection too... ?

      Depends on what the exchange fault was, if it was a systemic outage a lot of people could be affected, if it is/ was a fault with a certain DSLAM port then no there wouldn't be a massive number of people affected.
      If it's still down today ring back and ask for a proper explanation of what has gone wrong and make sure they tell you exactly what has failed.

      Our broadband has just been restored after about an 18 hour outage.

      I don't know what the problem was, everything was connected, all lights on the router were normal but I just couldn't get IP, Gateway or DNS addresses.

      That's the first major outage I've had from Sky in about 8 months so I'm not going to whine too much about it. I just hope it's a one off.

      Is the newcastle exchange still kaput or is it just me.

      Im going crazy!
