      Maximum Speeds

      Hi all,

This is probably a very simple question to answer:

It appears my maximum available speed is 5.5MB (according to BT) - can anyone explain to me why it's this low? I live under 2km from my exchange (as the crow flies). It seems to be something determined at the Exchange, is this correct?

It's pretty much determined by your line attenuation and your noise margin. Read this for a more detailed understanding.

Thanks mate, that is most useful! I'm currently waiting for Sky to reconnect me after their Sky +/cancel broadband bungle, so I'll run through that all extensively once I'm reconnected to the world
