      speed trouble

Hi. i live far away from the exchange. however this has never affected my internet performance before and have never experienced this problem ever.

im on the sky+ pack which allows me 2mb connection speed.
my connection cant handle 2mb so tier 3 put my connection down to 1mb.
it works fine never had a problem since then (4 months ago).
10 days ago connection was lost came back up and my speed was

      DownStream Connection Speed 352 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps

This is obviously very very slow. i do all the usual stuff, restart my router, reset my router, take the cap off the master socket and plug it directly in. (as always)
This did not fix the problem.

Rang technical support told them the problem went to tier 3. they then said alot of errors had been generated it might be worth bringing the connection down to 0.5mb. i agreed. it went down to 0.5mb everything reset (by now the time was 1am) and my connection was now

      DownStream Connection Speed 480 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps

improvement i thought, even though for as long as i remeber my internet never had a problem at running 512kbs with other isps and the only reason why i didnt have 1mb with them was because they didnt give it as an option (zen) hence the migration.

anyway i thought, ok i'll give this a try im sure some poor bugger is trying to ring tech support as well.

      Next day (sat) connection

      DownStream Connection Speed 280 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps

well this was totally unacceptable. its just far to slow, powered on and powered off the router several times. it seems to jump slightly from 280 kbps to 300 kbps to 400 kbps. however i made a mental note that for several years my connection was fine at 512kbps and could also easily handle 1mb with out any problems what so ever until last friday.
ive been unable to contact technical support and i guess noone is going to respond to this problem :P but in the off chance that someone might have experienced a similar problem and knows how to fix it or give advice on what to tell tier 3 in hope to resolve this problem and give me back my 1mb, i'll be all ears.

Read the first sticky in my signature then have a look at the cabling and faceplate help forum.
