      Connection/Speed Issuses

Hi was just wondering if someone can have a look at my stats all appear to be ok to me.

I did email sky because using my Xbox360 online was causing me a few problems. Since they have looked at this things seem worse (I have emailed again but havent had anything back yet) before this I used to connect at around 16Mg but now everytime its 12700 looks to me they have limited it to this. When doing speed test's now I only get about 1-2MG where as before I used to get around 8-10mg Ithink??

when you call Sky about speed issues, unless you get an agent at tier 3 an auto-regrade will go out and cap the line - this appears to have happened to you

you need to get back on to Sky and persist to talk to a tier 3 agent...

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

I thought they may have capped it as it always connects at the same speed and it a round number instead of a random number as it was before.
Both times I have contacted sky I have used the online form, do you think this is ok or should I ring them up.
      Thanks

The advice given so far is correct. However even at 12M you should be getting better throughput than 1-2M on the speed testers.
have you tried optimising your TCP/IP stack using the TCPoptimiser kicking around here?

I havent just seems a bit odd how its only got worse since sky had a look at it!!!
I think I am quite close to the exchange and only have one phone socket so cant see any reason why I cant get a near perfect connection ie 16Mg??

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

well, an http download (like the one on my sig) should be giving you around 1.2MB/sec....give it a try and see what you get. if u do get that rate then the line is fine and its just the speed test ur using. IF it's still low then there may be something else involved...

and you'll never get the full 16Mb, overheads will always mean its lower...

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

You need to be a little careful with the terminology.
1MB is a megabyte which is 8X 1Mb megabits.Depending on who you talk to it can also be translated as 10X 1Mb megabits.
i.e 1MB is 10X 1Mb/s so on the speed tester sites speed is measured in Megabits per scond NOT Megabytes per second.
      Mac.

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

Here is a list of recent speed tests as you can see around the 25th I was getting good results then you can see what I have been getting since then!

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

Those recent tests show a speed far less than what you are syncing at by around 10X worse.
I would run the optimiser first then try the speedtest again.
Even if it doesn't solve your problem then your networking will at least be, well, Optimised!
Give it a try then come back here with the results.
      >>Here<< is the program just to make it a little easier for you

      Re: Connection/Speed Issuses

well I have an IP profile of 2500 and download at around 250-300KB/sec on http downloads so i know im right with my understanding of it!!

and customers on Mid packages with a sync of 8mbps get transfer rates of 800-900KB/sec on that test so i must be about right!!
