      sky bb pain in backside

i have sky broadband since 2 weeks ago, up until 2 days ago it was spot on, no problems, decent speeds and i was happy with what i was paying for, but the last 2 days my internet is just refusing to work.

the strange thing is i can use mIRC and online games, ut,ut2k4,ut3 etc.. and no problems i get decent pings

i just cant use internet explorer or sign into msn, i spent 30 mins on the phone today to a nice lady who frankly didnt help me at all, just asked me to do the basic, switch on/off, clear history blabla still never worked, then at the end said she couldnt help and i should ring back later??

      anyone had similar problems???

Can you browse by IP address? Is this wired or wireless, any firewall installed at all? What operating system are you running and is that the only PC on the router?

Windows XP, its the only connection on the router through cable (dont like wireless no good for gaming :P)

well basically i can join a gaming server 80.7.60.234:7777 for example and have spot on pings, can join mIRC (quakenet) no problems but my internet or msn just doesnt work

i have no firewall, i did have avg but uninstalled it few weeks ago,

Go HERE and download Firefox. See if that will run. It looks like it is a fault with security, maybe a recent update?

im stuck in work atm so when i get back i will try and update on that, when i was on the phone to sky the lady asked me to put an ip in the address bar but nothing happened, its really strange as the internet obviously works as im gaming and mIRC

i logged into the router did connect test and sky test both came back fine, no different than normal

sounds like you need to manually configure your dns servers and assign an ip address manually, if your able to browse by ip address but not by url then this is definately the case.
