      Apparently that 15.5db Line atenuation is a faulse reading caused by a bug in the routers firmware. A hard reboot of the router should get rid of it & return your stats to the correct level for your line.

      I think you are very close to the max attenuation figure which is not god & suggests you have a very long run of cable from your master socket to the exchange. The longer the cable run, the more suseptable to picking up interference it will be. Like a longer ariel is better than a short one. this may explain why your SNR goes up & down quite dramatically during different times of the day.

      May I sugest you do a Quiet line test from the test socket? Plug phone into test socket behind faceplate & dial 17070 them press 2. If you can here noise on the line then you should get BT to check your external wiring.

      Just did line test 17070(2) and yes there is noise on the line, not enough to notice when dial tone is present

      BT said they have an problem on the line and are trying to rectify

      So guess i gotta wait!?!?

      Openreach came round on sat 3rd and tested line said too much noise on it, he left and was supposed to ring back within 2hrs, he didnt and phone line was dead until yesterday, yippee! i rebboted router and was getting near to 3 meg

      Re: Post heading - The awful service is being supplied by BT and Sky just pay them for it.

      I think what may have been missed here, is that if your details are correct, you are on Connect. This does not work like Sky LLU, where a line improvement can bring about an immediate improvement in speed. Your line profile is set after the 10 day training period and if your line fails to sync at the profile speed for a short period of time, the profile is dropped down until it does. If your line stays stable for anything between a few hours and 3 days it will be reset. Have a look at THIS from Plusnet for some more info on Adaptive Rate Logic, which is applied to BTs ADSLMax (Connect)

      I meant to add, a new router will not help the noise, if you are in the test socket, only BT can fix it.

      supposedly i was being changed to mid on the 3rd of november but dont know if thats been done yet, no i know, a new router will NOT improve things but hey who am i to aurgue with a woman in the back end of nowhere who isnt listening to me?

      You are still on Connect!

      With an SNR of 5.3, you are on the point of dropping out. Reboot or power cycle your router, it should reconnect at about 6.9 or better. This will reduce your download speed, but will make it more stable.

      Go HERE and enter your phone number then your hidden router username. This will show you the profile for your line and the current speed. I would advise rebooting before you try it.
