      NEWBIES usual stupid questions

Wow what an excellent forum guys........ well done!

OK so I am new to sky bb and its problems(?)

Firstly I cannot log in to the portal with any of the many possible user/pass combinations(upper/lower etc)... is there a problem at the moment?

nor will Outlook accept my account changes, leaving me with incoming email but no outgoing (incoming still using old non sky info)(yes I followed the guide)

I have no experience of routers and cannot get access to MSN nor can I get good Utorrent speeds, I have followed the guides several times to no avail....
      - I do use zonealarem could it be this??????

Finally I have used TCP optimiser but am still not blown away by my speeds what should i get on an 8meg connection? (in reality I was told to expect speeds around 5meg)........

Dont have much free time and I find all this extremely frustrating!

Thanks in advance and hope I posted this in the right place!

can't help with the first few questions, but have a look at links in my sig and post your detailed stats,
also just to check, are you wired or wireless and are you plugged into the master socket (these will help when looked at with your stats)

      Re: NEWBIES usual stupid questions

Firstly can you confirm what package you are on? If you are on Base, the maximum speed you will get is 2mb, with a very restricted usage allowance.

The email is being changed at the moment and there are different server settings depending on whether you are on the old or new system.

I have no problems logging in to the portal, but that means little, except that it is working. Were you given a username password or did you have one carried over from the MySky portal?

Ok, I am using a wired connection. I have disabled the wireless bit because it interfered with my TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and I dont need it)
No I am not in the master socket because that is in the loft!!!!!!!!!
      - I have just moved house and every room in the house has a hard wired socket, master socket being in the loft. I am in the first room it goes to. Would you suggest I try to get a cable up there to the master socket?

damm, hate it when master is in the loft, will have to leave that advice to someone else

one thing i did notice is you seem to be on connect (upstream 448) i think for the first 3-10 days they run at diff speed (someone will explain better)

could you post the detailed stats (mognuts tool in one of my sigs)

I originally ordered the max package.........

Later Sky eventually admitted that they could not supply me and that the only BB they could was actually a rebadged BT product - 8Meg was mentioned.... Strangely none of my paperwork mentions a speed!!!!!!
Of course it has also cost me an extra 7 a month which I am not entirely happy with but had no choice.....

I am new to sky and just cannot seem to get any coonotation of my user/pass to be accepted...... the home page is confusing at first and it took me a while to realise that I was connected and could surf
