      Re: NEWBIES usual stupid questions

      You are looking to reduce the amount of errors your router is recording. Although you have not been connected very long, this small section shows that you have not succeeded-
      Previous 15 minutes time = 15 min 0 sec
      SF = 52990
      CRC = 5303
      LOS = 0
      LOF = 0
      ES = 355
      The red figures show that you have had an error rate over 10% during this 15 min period. This is enough to severely reduce your SNR and even drop the connection. As I said previously, the only way you can rule out internal wiring faults is to connect to the Test socket. If you are connected to the Test socket, then your phone line is very noisy and only BT can fix that.

      Cheers for that.....

      No i am not in the test socket (.....yet!)
      I have however disconnected 2 extensions.
      I am now stuck because several wires leave the last extension so I need to be careful about which ones to disconect!
      I am thinking of maybe using my multimeter to test which ones i need to keep

      .... has anyone any experience of doing this?

      .... thanks for your patience - i dont have alot of spare time to do all this stuff!
      ....I still think my router is ****y! the lights are all over the place... steady one minute flashing the next ( .....am i right - they should flash all the time?)
      .......However your comments above would also cause this ?

      ...........Finally the general feeling of the forum gives me the impression that Sky connect is a generally poor and unreliable service with dodgy routers.... am i right?
      Certainly i have experience of 2 other bb providers who if nothing else offered a genuine plug in and work service ( irrespective of wiring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
      Thanks for your help so far!
      Will disconnect more as soon as i can and report back
      Will also attempt to decipher stats myserlf before posting!
      Anyway Beer is calling!!!!!!

      if you tried using mognuts to increase your SNR to about 18 you will get a more stable connection (at a lower speed)

      what speed were your other BB's

      I want to to sort out wiring first, just do not have time.... (just moved, work, etc)

      previously I had a 512 and a 2meg.

      Got another extension disconnected and left router to settle after switching it off, below are the bottom bits of my latest stats'
      percentage of CRC is alot lower.....

      What is an ideal figure????????????

      are these stats better?

      Re: NEWBIES usual stupid questions

      You errors are improving, but not by enough. The errors seem to be occurring in spike ie
      15 minutes interval [-60 min to -45 min] time = 15 min 0 sec
      SF = 52930
      CRC = 18810
      LOS = 0
      LOF = 0
      ES = 658
      This section is showing an error rate of about 35%, which is far too high. Ideally it should look like this -
      15 minutes interval [-60 min to -45 min] time = 15 min 0 sec
      SF = 52930
      CRC = 0
      LOS = 0
      LOF = 0
      ES = 0
      I am afraid you have a bit to do yet
