Cannot login into Router on 192.168.0.1

      Hello,

Currently having an issue where internet connection has failed and am in loops between tier 1 and tier 2 support with Sky who are convinced its a line issue and are ping ponging with BT. However, when dialing in to the router on 192.168.0.1 the connection is extremely slow and if it does load will then fail on the next click defaulting to "page not found". It was never like this before and leads me to believe there may be an issue with the router. Does this mean the router is faulty and if so, does anyone have any suggestions for convincing sky to swap the router. Any help would be appreciated as it has been a week now and phone bills (along with blood pressure) are starting to rise.

      Cheers
      Simonsco

Wired - the lights on the router are Power, Wireless (tier 1 requested I reset the box to factory defaults and as I cannot log and switch wireless back off its staying on for now) and 4 for RJ-45 connection to PC. I have switched LAN ports and swapped out cables to see if that makes any difference but it is still the same.

      Assuming you're using Windows...

Start -> Run -> type (without quotes) 'cmd' and hit Enter.

At the prompt, type (again, without quotes) 'ipconfig' and hit Enter.

Look for the label that says "Default Gateway". If it's anything other than 192.168.0.1, try entering that into the address bar to access the router. If it is that, then it does seem like your router is gubbed.

      Some routers use 192.168.1.1 . . . .

      That doesn't really matter.

Basically, whatever is listed as the Default Gateway should be the addy that gives you access to the router; if it doesn't, then the router has a problem.

The Sky Netgear DG834GT does not.

I suspect it may be your Network card that is at fault, either failing hardware or a corrupt driver. Try uninstalling it in the Device Manager, then reinstall it with the manufacturer's latest drivers.

EDIT - Also try a different browser to access the router.

Lots of customers cannot access the router settings page in ever 10 customers you would be lucky if 3 can connect to the router settings page. I think it has something to do with the firmware that is on the netgear router.

in my experience its mainly wireless problems, i know the routers are bad but nowhere near 30% of calls do i have to replace a router, no offence ot the OP but it is commonly the end users fault.

to the OP i would advise holding in the reset button for longer than 10 seconds to do a full reset, try using yellow cable instead of wireless and then check the local area conneciton settings in network connections in control panel, they should be both set to automatically recieve ip address and automatically recieve dns address.

if still having problems phone through to tier 1, advise all troubleshooting has been completed and request a replacement router, i beleieve that is the diagnosis given in mojo anyway.

To be honest I think you are wrong the amount of customers that I ask to type in 192.168.0.1 into the address bar and nothing happens is at least 30% or at times slightly more. Even when I get the customer to add the ip addresses manually it is the same problem simple fact is that Sky's firmware isnt the best. Now my brother uses a netgear router with netgear firmware on it and every single time he can connect now I dare say if he put Skys firmware on it he wouldnt be able to connect to the router settings page. Even doing a 15 second reset putting it all back to the factory defualts is the same issues. It is meant to be ALOT better with the Sagem router.
