      Dropping connection, difficult to get connected

      Firstly hello to you all, I hope you can help me. I'll try and give as much background as I can but I'm not overly down with computers, I know enough to get by and can solve most simple problems on my own but I need help with this one.

      I am currently on Sky Broadband Max, with the Netgear router, I have two desktops linked upto the router, one via the ethernet cable and one wirelessley. The operating system on the ethernet desktop is Windows ME, and Vista on the wireless one.

      My problem is the internet connection keeps dropping when I am connected to the internet, and the only way either computer can connect in the first place is to reset or unplug the router and start it up again. I have been onto sky a few times and they haven't been able to help me, on one occasion they said they could not offer me any help as one of the pcs connected was using Windows ME. Any help you can give me is much appreciated.

      Hi and welcome to the forum!

      You seem to be experiencing the kind of problem which many, many Sky customers have. There are literally dozens of messages about people suffering from dropped connections.

      Have a search around the forum to find topics where people have experienced the same problem, for example, this thread: Please, Please Help. Constant Disconnections. Or use the search box at the top of the page to look for "disconnections" or something like that.

      If you can't find anything that seems similar to the particular problems you're experiencing, then post back here with a bit more detail about what's going wrong - things like how often the connection drops are happening, whether they're happening at a specific time of day, whether they're roughly always between 7pm and 9pm, that kind of thing.
