How long does IT typically take?

Hey guys. I signed up on Oct 11. Got a letter from Sky the other day (late with postal strike) confirming my order. However, its now almost 10 days and we still haven't switched, nor received a router (maybe even anew one ).

I called Sky; and they mentioned that its over in BT's hands now to give them a date when they're switching the line; and when they get the date from BT, they'll ship the router?

So realistically, are we talking about 20 days in total for the switching process? Seems very long-winded?

Sounds about right. Normally 10 working days is about right, but there are no guarantees with these things.

Ring 08705 515515 then press the relevent options to find out your order status, if there has been a problem with BT (as in my case) they wont let you know, so best to chase them up.

Best advice you can take - 08705 515 515 option 1, option 1, option 3 for order status. Ask for the progress of your order. Orders take between 8 and 12 days (8 working days) but if its any longer you should have been informed. October 11th orders would be either due to go live on the 19th or the 22nd.

Also, is it connect? If so, you won't recieve your router till 5 working days after activation sometimes.
I am not posting officially on behalf of Sky. I am posting individual thoughts and advice.

      Hey,

Well our PIPEX stopped working last night, and we called Sky today - it's gone live.

However - we've still got no router! Not impressed so far. They said the box is on its way - so I'm hoping it arrives tomorrow. Not impressed by the fact they didn't forsee it going live and send it out early!

Hopefully I'll get one of the shiny new black routers.

Are you signing up to the Max, Mid, Base or connect. If it is connect the send the router after activation date.

I moved from Homecall and luckily all went perfectly well, they switched my line and got the router within the next few days, plugged in at got my net

It'll be Connect, since Sky isn't LLU'd at his exchange. I can't for the life of me think of any reason why with Connect customers, they delay sending out a router until the line's been activated. It just guarantees that the customer will have several days downtime, and starts the whole relationship badly.

They said to me it is because of the relationship between Sky and BT, they need to be 100% sure that the line WILL be activated, once activated all is ok and they can send out the stuff.

I now want to go to Sky Max, but they won't let me because I have an order processing for Sky Talk Unlimited and they said that has to be completed first
