Help please. New to sky BB max package

      Hi all,

I have Sky BB max package but my speed and downloads are agonisingly slow. I am downloading off Microsoft at around 35kb/sec.

My last BB was up to 8mb with NTL and i downloaded at around 450kb/sec so i expected Sky BB to beat that as its up to 16mb.

      Any help much appreciated

there are a few things that can be checked but the first question is are you wired or wireless ?

Unfortunately, if you were on a cable supply, you could be slower, a lot slower, or you could be a lot faster, it depends on the length and quality of your phone line. BTW your details say you are on Base, I take it this is a mistake?

Re: Help please. New to sky BB max package

Yes that is a mistake it should say max package.

I am using the router wired. I have two friends in the area who both have this bb package and download at around 800kb/sec

Looked at my router settings, not sure what info you need to see but its at:

      DownStream Connection Speed 3616 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 764 kbps

      Thanks.

Re: Help please. New to sky BB max package

Its plugged directly into the wall so i assume the master socket.

Re: Help please. New to sky BB max package

if the bt line comes in from the street pole outside, follow it as it enters your house, master socket will be the first socket you come to (may go through a small rectangle box first)

the reason for trying to find the master socket is to see if you have a test socket behind the face plate(socket will have 2 screws on the front), using the test socket is the best way to find out if your home wiring is causing problems on the line
(this may not be the problem, but it's the first thing in a long list of things to try)

Ah then no it wont be the master socket.

I had nothing to do with the wiring. My step dad organised everything.

have a look at the 2 links in my sig, one of these will give you details of how to post your detailed stats,

i would guess we will see lots of errors on your line, which may be causing your speed issues (but lets have a look first)
