      Sky MAX problems

hello, I've been on SKY Max since August now and when I first got connected for about a month was permanently getting 6-7 meg of d/l speed and 600 k'b of upload speed.

first question was is all I should of had as I was promised upto 16 mb connection (I didnt expect that but expected more than 6-7 mb ?) ?

Then after a month I've been experiencing a connection speed which is averaging around 2950-3600 Meg of d/l but still 600 k/b of upload.

I dont have my connection permanently on and when I do connect the router by giving it power, it always comes up with the above speed(3 MB max) but if I disconnect the cable from the phone connection power off and connect up to it again it `normally`re-connects at a higher speed.

I was expecting when I got this to be all-ways at the higher speed ? as I was told I would be getting ADSL2 and MAX from sky.

the fact that I have Sky Max does that mean I am actually on ADSL2 (how can I proof this ?) my exchange is Ryton in the north east of england and I am reportedly 1.89 kms from the x-change via DSL ZoneUK - Distance to exchange

Anybody help to get me sorted out would be appreciated even if it's to get the 6-7 m/b speed normally as I got during the 1st month sorted out ?

from router when I have 3 m/b connection which is at 23.34.

Your upload speed of 768 is proof that you are indeed on MAX.

You are on G.DMT not ADSL2+ and your are connected at 8mb infact capped at 8mb which is normal for Sky on G.DMT mode, your line errors dont look bad, but stats from a longer period of time with heavy downloading may show differen't. You could try running TCP Optimizer on your PC to see if that helps. Just Google "TCP Optimizer" you will find it. If your errors remain low you just need to convince Sky to switch you to ADSL2+ mode.

      Re: Sky MAX problems

Even capped at 8mb you should be getting a much better download speed, something in the region of 7mb. This suggests that your PC and the router are not communicating efficiently, as Koala suggests, run TCPOptimiser for a start. You should also check the download using a wired connection to cut out wireless faults. Incidentally, if you are not using the wireless function, turn it off for 100% security.

To check your errors you really need to plug in to the test socket, behind the Master socket faceplate. This cuts out any extensions and the master faceplate, which can cause errors on the line. Read Cabling and faceplate help - Sky User - The unofficial support forum for everything Sky! section for ideas on how to improve your connection.

Properly optimized, with the errors reduced, you should achieve 13-15 Mb.

Just to give evidence to what I said in the original post where after a power-down of the router and disconnecting-re-connecting the phone wire to the router the speed changes as at 18.50.
