Unhappy Please, Please Help. Constant Disconnections

      Hi all,

Please please can someone give me some advice. I am at my wits end.

I got sky broadband in August and every day, yes every day I am disconnected 5-7 times.

The internet works fine, with good speeds, then bang, connection drops.

At this point if you unplug the power to the router and reconnect, once the wireless network connects (about 5 mins) the connection comes back fine.

I have spoken to tier 3 around 5-6 times, each time they state they can see errors etc and guarantee that the problem has been fixed, but soon after it drops again. Each time it takes 1 hour to get through to tier 3 via the helkpdesk and its driving me crazy and costing me a fortune....

I really dont know what to do.....Please can someone help.

      Thanks in advance

      Sanchez

have a read of the link below, this will give you an idear about the router stats, once you have had a look post your detailed stats back here.
      also a couple of questions:
where do you have the router plugged in?
      are you wired or wireless?
and are the diconections random or at about the same time?

first port of call would be to move router to your master (or test, if you have one) socket and run a wired connection if possible to gauge connection. also, turn off UPnP from the router as this is known to cause wireless issues...

      Thanks for that advice.

I tried my master socket last night (from Skys advice) and today at lunch it disconnected again. Have also tried test with no luck.

sky are trying to blame my internal wiring which is rubbish because I had Tiscali for years with no problems whatsoever.

Id appreciate any help ppl can offer as like I say this has been over 2 months now

Re: Please, Please Help. Constant Disconnections

I had the same problem where the wireless connection was working fine for a month but then it kept dropping connections on the router (wireless to router was fine as I would soft-reset by connecting to router). The main thing that fixed it was hard wiring using a LAN cable from PC to router.

Re: Please, Please Help. Constant Disconnections

When you say master socket do you mean the test socket behind the face plate of your master socket? Also what speed was your Tiscali running at? I had BT 2mb for years with no problems, but Sky's 8mb kept disconnecting and it was indeed my wiring at fault it didn't like Skys faster speed. By removing the face plate of the master it disconnects all internal wiring so you can tell if it that causing the problem.

I am tempted to try this but I also have a wireless laptop. Plus I really want my t'interweb to be wireless.

Ill have to try the test socket. Will try that and report back. Thanks for the advice and please keep the suggestions coming in

Re: Please, Please Help. Constant Disconnections

      Another thought.......

I had Tiscali successfully for a few years. However they capped me at 1meg. Although BT/Sky/all other suppliers were saying "come with us and have 3.5meg" tiscali always said they couldnt give me more than 1meg.

Could this be the reason for the build up of errrs and the disconnections? Should I call Sky (I have an open ticket) and get them to cap me at 1 meg to try it?
