      16mb Connection

      Hey,

I'm on the max package and I am getting a connection speed of around 8mb.

      My router says:

      DownStream Connection Speed 13383 kbps

This is what I am actually getting.

Any ideas on how to get closer to the 13mb it should be?

I've tryed the TCPOptimizer program, it doesn't seem to change the speed.

Was hoping to be near 16 mb as I think a BT exchange is nextdoor.

Wired you should be getting ~10.5meg.
Wireless anything up to ~10.5meg (could be much, much less).

Are you wireless? If not then could be an overloaded speedtest server - try this one.

      Re: 16mb Connection

Ok, can someone point me to a file to download that is from a good server. And then tell me what download speed I should get for like 10-15mb connection. - I think I was downloading a file at around 1.3mb a second, that's the best i've seen.

That new site says im getting 11493kps now.

Namesco BroadbandMax Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL connection speed

also.. why does this site give me a result of like 3311 kbps.

      Speakeasy - Speed Test

It's all very confusing. I really would like to know what it's running at lol.

Try downloading Open Office, seems pretty accurate to me.

      Re: 16mb Connection

Also the reason Speakeasy - Speed Test is so slow is that the servers are in the USA, you are not going to get a full speed download from there. The other site you used is in the UK!

      Re: 16mb Connection

It's running at 11.5mb and downloading at 1.4mb a second max.

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 13383 kbps 764 kbps
Line Attenuation 17.0 db 9.3 db
Noise Margin 6.9 db 13.0 db

That's the stats on the router.

Why does sky advertise up to 16mb, my situation is near perfect for it to be as close to the max you should get.

So this up to 16mb isn't a true statement?
