Unhappy *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

Please help, have been with sky for 2 months now and at roughly 9 o clock every night my connection slows down then dissconnects,i have monitored it through the router settings and it seems that the downstream goes up and the noise margin goes down, here is a post of the stats from after this has happened and underneath them are the stats as they are now which the downstream speed is also slower than what it is normally ( normally 4096 which it is capped to ),

Is anything automatically switched on at 9pm?

      Central heating or similar?

Re: *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

Is there anything at all that happens at 9pm?

Software running on PC, timers in the house?

Its strange that it can be replicated every day at 9pm.

Hopefully someone else can suggest something for you.

Re: *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

Unfortunately, if you can find no internal reason for this, something is effecting your line externally which you probably can do little about. Have a read through THIS thread by James67. You will gather from the thread that he has had much the same problem as you and as James is no 'newbie' this will give you an idea what you are up against.

I don't know if it will help but if you install Mossys BounceRouter it will boot your router automatically when it looses it's connection. This at leasts means you don't have to do it manually.

Re: *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

is it just a coincidence that this has started since joining sky, cant be surely,is it the router firmware issue maybe? im clueless,it does seem tho since yesterday to be staying at 3168 kbps with a steady noise margin so will wait and see tonight, maybe another router would cope better?

Re: *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

One of the biggest enemies of ADSL is interference from medium-wave radio stations. Unfortunately, the medium wave band sits slap-bang in the frequency range used by ADSL.

If you've ever scanned through the medium wave band on a radio, you'll notice that there are many more stations at night compared to during the day. And these stations fade in and out at different times, so you might find, for example, a Polish station that appears soon after dusk, but a Spanish one might only start appearing several hours later - that kind of thing. ADSL is designed to cope with this. The router identifies which frequency the interference has started occurring on, and then asks the equipment at the exchange to move some of the data that was being carried at that frequency, to a different frequency which has less interference. This process is called bit swapping.

Unfortunately, the Sky router doesn't seem to do bit swapping very well. And it seems to do a particularly bad job of requesting bit swaps with the brand of equipment that Sky use at the exchange.

We're all very hopeful that the forthcoming new release of software for the Sky router will improve this situation considerably. Given that Sky are using one particular type of router and only two makes of exchange equipment (Alcatel for people connected on Sky Broadband Connect, Globespan for everyone else), they should be able to get their router working very well indeed, potentially better than if you were using a router bought from a shop.

Re: *** PLEASE HELP *** router slows down then disconnects at same time every night

thanks,im almost certain the router or firmware are partly to blame,as this definately only started when i joined sky(changed router) so maybe the new release will sort it,im hopefull,as i also said earlier it does seem to be staying at 3168 kbps and noise margin at 16+ db so maybe sky level 3 have done something to fix it,i dont know because as yet i havnt spoken to them, have had my ticket for 5 days aswell,i am constantly monitering the line so will see what happens tonight, thanks again for everyones input and if anyone else has any ideas please post!
