Compatability check to Migrate from Aol (8mb) to SKY Max?

Hi I am new to all the ADSL jargon so ps bear with me here! ...Great forum by the way!!

      I am hoping some of you Guys can please check settings below to see if i can get the full Max connection. I am currently paying a ridiculous sum of 46 p.m. for Aol platinum & talk, in the day my avg speed is aprox 5.5mb to 7mb but it badly drops in the evenings and weekends as i am a supposedly high user which is ridiculous as i dont p2p and only watch a few live footy streams a week, so i have now decided to go with SkyBB/TV/Phone {max if possible} as i already have the Sky TV {Aol have offered me it for 9.99 p.m. on a 18mnth contract but the quality seems to have gone to pot since carphone has taken over}
I understand from posts that if one cannot get the max 16mb package that there may be probs etc with a lower package, is this true in my case? Also I am currently using the Corded DG834v1 Router which i would like to keep for security reasons, would this be compatible with the Sky's firmwear?
PS If the below settings are not good enough, this may be due to a very old BT connection box {no faceplate etc} but i do have a new BT master socket with the filter which i am hoping to fit soon as i get the wire tool!
      Many Thanks in advance!

      LINESTATS:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7744 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 32 db 9.5 db
Noise Margin 6 db 28 db

PS: Ive checked on the 'samknows' and i am currently 1.16KM from Clacton-on-sea exchange (1.61 direct) and it tells me it is possible to get Sky! Oh yes, i use the line aprox 5 hours a day browsing etc, Note: i dont use p2p but i do watch 1-2 LIVE football streams a week!

According to THIS you can expect to get 12-14mb.

There is no need to worry about security with the Sky router, if you don't want wireless, you can turn it off.

Re: Compatability check to Migrate from Aol (8mb) to SKY Max?

It means that all the Sky LLU spaces in your exchange have been taken up. In cases like these Sky offer what they call Connect, which is a rebadged version of BT's ADSLMax, the full cost of which is 17, for up to 8mb with 40gb download limit. If the exchange is due to be upgraded with another DSLAM within a few months, Sky will offer it at 5. They are obviously not expecting to upgrade soon or you would get this offer. Did you try the web site, some find that the person on the phone says one thing and the web site another. Put your phone number into this page and see what comes up-

There are some problems with the router and it's firmware, these seems to effect users differently. I for instance have had very few problems, others are plagued with difficulties. It is strongly rumoured that the firmware is due to be updated shortly.

      Thanks again for replying!
Yes i have used the sky telephone check many times before and it says i can get the 8mb service, ive also done the ADSL/RAG/LLU test which tells me i can get SKY/EASYNET infact all come up Green aprat from the SDSL which shows (RED) not connected! Just checked and rechecked again today on the SkyBB test and now i keep getting a 'Runtime error'! I am wondering if Aol has something to do with it because since asking for my Mac No: the quality has gone from bad to very bad!!
If i can only get the 'connect' service is it a Bad thing? If so can you advise on another service please? Thanks again isitme.

IF you go on Connect you'll get exactly the same as you are now as it's a rebranded BT service (as is AOL from the looks of it)

Not all LLU operators set their connections up the same as Sky, so you can't make that assumption. The Clacton exchange does have AOL available as a LLU service.

Re: Compatability check to Migrate from Aol (8mb) to SKY Max?

i can make the assumption, hence it being an assumption!!

i know full well that not all ISPs are the same but it'd be a coincidence if they use the same upload. if they do then fair enuff, i'm big enuff to admit when im wrong so if/when the info comes through proving so then i'll admit it!!
