      Re: Router ports

A bit of an obvious suggestion and you've probably already tried this, but do things change when you move the connectors around - plugging the PC that was in port 1 into port 2, etc? And are the corresponding number lights showing on the front of the router?

The Ethernet ports on the router are under the control of an entirely different chip. Even if the router crashes, you usually find that those ports carry on moving network traffic between each other, if nowhere else.

Some switches allow the establishment of what are known as VLANs which separate out network ports into distinct groups, but that isn't available on Sky's router, so the problem you're reporting (assuming you find that no matter what you do, it's always ports 1 and 3 that don't work) suggests a hardware problem. I did once have a switch where some of the ports got broken because a badly crimped Ethernet connector has pushed the springy contacts inside the socket back too far and they no longer made a firm contact with a properly crimped connector. Have a look right into the socket and make sure the 8 little springy copper contacts in each hole look right. That's the most likely reason why some ports work and not others.

      Re: Router ports

I have tried differnt ports and its just port 2 that works with my 2 computers, the other just keep displaying the "network cable unpluged" thing at the bottem on the screen ever few seconds. On the other ports that dont work the light flashes ever 5 secs or so, dont know why.
