      Slowwwwww Download Speeds

On Sky Connect package for about a year with little trouble; only able to get 2Mb in my area. My router is hard-wired to desktop PC, with wireless disabled. UPnP
      is also disabled.
Had some disconnection problems in the last 5 days; it seems to have stabilised but not downloading as it should.

According to router stats the Downstream Connection Speed is 1856 Kbps and Upstream is 448 Kbps, which seems about right.

However, it is obviously not downloading at that speed so I ran a variety of speed tests. They all measure the download speed at only 131 Kbps and the upload at 384 Kbps.

I have tried my laptop in the master socket with other filters disconnected but with same results.

Any pointers before I contact Tech Support?

Any way of finding out whether BT and/or the local exchange are having problems?

      Thanks, Dave

      Re: Slowwwwww Download Speeds

You say you tried the Master socket, do you have a test socket, behind the master socket face plate. If you do, try it from there.

Do you live a long way from your exchange? It has ADSLMax, which is capable of up to 8Mb. You may be able to get more with some work on your wiring.

Try your speed tests HERE it is the BT tester and will also tell you what your line profile is set to. You will need your phone number and the hidden username from your router.

      Re: Slowwwwww Download Speeds

As it happens it seems OK this morning!

I'm about 3.3 km from the exchange.

I took faceplate off and used socket the faceplate was inserted into. It is not marked as a test socket though.

The results of the bt test are:-

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
      DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1856 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1407 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.

That is consistent with other tests this morning; looks like I can only get 1.5Mbps though.

Thats the one. It will not be marked as such, but it is the direct connection to the phone line and is referred to as the Test socket.

Your profile is set at 1500, so you may benefit from it being lifted slightly as you are syncing at a higher rate. I am not sure how you go about this with Sky, but I think Tier 2 will handle it. Maybe one of the Skybods on the forum can advise.
