      Can't get speeds indicated by sync rate

      I have recently transferred from Zen BB over to Sky and although Iím synching at much the same rate (on average around 5000), when I do a speed test the results are much lower. At the moment I get speed test results of around 1800kbps, whereas on Zen I used to get between 3000kbps and 4000kbps. Also the speed test is unaffected whether I sync at 6500 or 4500. Is it possible my line has been capped?

      I do notice that I seem to have a lot of errors on my line, but this was the same when I was on Zen, and I never had any disconnections or unusually low speed test results.

      The main BT socket doesnít have the test socket, and only has two wires in 2&5 plugged in behind the faceplate. Additionally on the extension sockets in the house I have disconnected all wires except those into 2&5.

      It does not look good -
      Latest 15 minutes time = 6 min 8 sec
      SF = 21702
      CRC = 17436
      LOS = 0

      This represents almost 100% errors, it is a wonder that your connection is able to stay up. As you have no Test socket and have already disconnected the ring wires, the only thing I can suggest, if you are up to it, is to temporarily disconnect your extensions. If your errors reduce, you will know that they are, partly at least, being caused by your extensions.

      If you still have the Zen router, you could put your username/password into it and try it. If there is a big improvement, you may have a faulty router.

      Re: Can't get speeds indicated by sync rate

      I have tried the Zen router but the speed remains the same.

      I have now noticed that I seem to be losing sync a lot more. I don't think I ever had more than 2 or 3 forced disconnections in over a year when I was with Zen. One time today, I was disconnected when the phone rang during a speed test and I had more than a few disconnections yesterday.

      The odd thing with the phone sockets is that the two extensions have four wires in them and the main one (one in hall with capacitor thing on back of faceplate) only has three wires coming from the cable.(one of them disconnected).

      Does anyone know the cost of getting BT round to check the wiring and possibly fit a new filtered faceplate?

      Re: Can't get speeds indicated by sync rate

      when i moved into my house 4 years ago i noticed i had no new style master socket, bt did come round and replace old one for free, only thing i cannot remember what reason i gave them, i think i just asked if i should have one and they said yes, they did also say if there was one or i had been messing with the wires i would be charged, i suggest giving them a ring to find out
