I can see why so many ppl are frustrated by this weird setup process Sky have adopted...previous ISPs have sent me my login details and password way before the activation date!
They can't do that, as they don't know what router you are going to get. I imagine the setup is something like this - A batch of routers arrive at the warehouse, these are put through a scanner which takes the details, ie MAC address, from this the password is generated and the details fed into the system. The routers pass to the next table where someone sticks on the address labels and passes them to Parcelforce(line?).
This means that Sky do not know any individuals username/password until they actually log in. Even then I don't know if they can look it up. No doubt one of the Skybods on the forum will correct me if I am wrong

Re: Activated, no router, sky sending password...

I finally got my router yesterday only to be greeted with connection error 300.
Spent 50 minutes on the phone mostly to Tier 3 before they hung up on me, was not too happy that they didn't call back but I woke up this morning and all was well!

wondered if it may have been cos I had my old 3com router connected while waiting for the sky router....mac addresses etc? who knows! anyways it's working at 5.5Mbps so I'm happy.

Ah, isn't it great to see all these happy new subscribers who got stuck in the backlog finally get their routers.

how did u use ur old modem if the username/password are locked in the router getting sent to you?

if u used someone else's id keep shtum as there have been cases of legit users getting suspended as someone else has been using their logins....
