Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

      Hi

I just joined sky Broadband Max 16Mb, as most to you I was very excited to do a BB speed check. found that I am only getting 6Mb (pc) 8Mb (router). Before making the jump to sky I checked my possible BB speed in the sky website it said 8mb to 16mb. Now after installation it says that my line can only handle up to 6mb. So was is going on here? I live 800metres from the Hove exchange so would expect better conextion. Please let me what you think

give Sky a call as you should be syncing at near the full 16MB if they put you on ADSL2+ - full stats would help just to be sure but id imagine its fine so you just gotta get to tier 3 and they'll do it - 5 min job if u get them...

Re: Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

Cheers for your prompt replay IamNotTheEnemy

I called sky today explained the problem, the advisor run a speed test and told me that my line can only handle up to 6.5mb and that I was very lucky to be getting 8mb. I asked about upgrading my connection profile to ADLS2 but I donít think he knew what I was talking about, he said that before anything was done I should first check the filters, cables or call BT to check line. Is this the case?

I am wired, live 800mt from exchange. Surely I should be getting a lot more.. Here are my router stats please let me know what you think.. Thanks in advance 

Re: Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

you need to ignore what they say - Sky use speed checkers that run off a BT based system, nothing to do with attenuaton levels so you'll need to get to tier 3 to get any sense out of them......

it's getting past tier 1 which is the hard part. May i suggest saying u have an error code 300 or something and call after 11PM and they should try and pass u to tier 3...

Re: Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

I seem to have a lower attenuation figure than most, that I have seen on here. Am I right to assume the following figures are very good?

      Upstream:- 12
      Downstream:- 4.7

Re: Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

Just to add i was in the same situation back in may, and sky's tests are accurate as in for adsl you can get 5meg or above as my exchange says, But after a chat with a tier3 guy he removed the g.dmt ( adsl ) cap and moved me onto sky's adsl2+ profile and low and behold i got the full 16mbs sync on a 31 attenuation.

So dont give up and just tell the tier1 people that you know your line can only support an adsl speed of 6mbs according to BT but you are with sky and not bt and you know that if you were moved to adsl2+ you would get double the sync you get now.

It took me about 2 days to get them to change it back then, but nowadays it should take alot less time as tier3 would have done litterally thousands of these changes by now.

      Regards

      Ian

Re: Ordered 16Mb got 6Mb BT or SKY???

Hey, I have the exact same promlem.

I got sky broadband max package (16mb) installed a couple of weeks ago but I am only getting download speeds of around 6mb, my router stats say 8mbps. I tried calling sky tech support yesterday and the person I spoke to did the line test and said that was all I am capable of getting. I explained that I live 750metres from the exchange in a brand new house and only had my bt line installed last week but the person just said sorry but your line can only support that speed.

I've tried calling Sky but they say that my line can only take that and they wouldnt let me speak to tier 3 people.

      My router stats are:
