Unhappy WHO KNOWS? not Sky or BT

Hi all, plz can anyone explain why nearly 3 weeks ago I had no problems with my 2mb sky internet connection. Then all of a sudden my connection has dropped to 256kps. Sky sent out a BT engineer who replaced the line to the exchange. this did not solve the problem. Another BT engineer performed a " Lift and Shift " today and it`s still not solved the problem. BT have said that, that is all they can do and Sky don`t know what to do. We have tried and tested everything we can think of but with no joy.

When I checked around to see what other suppliers were offering they all said that my line is only capable of receiving 512kps, which is very strange since i`ve had broadband from Orange for the last 4 years at 2mb average, and all my neighbours can get a max of 3.5mb.

If I move to another supplier will my connection speed increase. If not what can I do?

      Many Thanks in advance.

Re: WHO KNOWS? not Sky or BT

it's down to BT as it's their hardware providing the service - having said that there a lot of errors on the line so id suggest trying ur master/test socket if u havent already...

Re: WHO KNOWS? not Sky or BT

      The Saga Continues,

BT have done everything in their power to get to bottom of this problem and i know this for a fact as it`s a family member who works for them who has been dealing with it and we have tried every conceivable thing known to man to solve this including using the test socket but all to no avail.

Sky have now decided that they are unable to resolve the problem with my connection speed ( which has fallen yet again ) and in their infinate wisdom have now decided that they should cancel my broadband, however i`m unsure as to what to do next. After speaking to the cancellation department they have informed me that as of Fri afternoon i will be able to phone them for my MAC code even though at this moment in time i have no desire to move to another provider ( and did explaine this to them ) so why can they not just cancel my service remove anything on my line and let me have a few days headache free while i decide if it is worthwhile trying to find an ISP who can give me broadband without all hassel i`ve had over the past 3 weeks with Sky.Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: WHO KNOWS? not Sky or BT

Your problem is that you are actually using a re-badged BT service, which Sky can do little about, other than ask BT to fix the line. As you had a reasonable service for some time something has happened to badly degrade your line. This could be anything from a loose connection at the exchange to someone putting a pick through the cable. As things stand, if you friend has confirmed that they can find nothing wrong, you are unlikely to be any better off with another provider as most use the same BT ADSLMax service. There is a chance that if you went on to a LLUd service, things would improve, but there is no guarantee of this happening.
