      Angry Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

      Hi All,

anyone had this? and what did you do??

I had a perfectly functional broadband of around 8mbit, however I had a small element of crosstalk on the line which I could hear on voicecalls. I also blamed this for the reason my line could drop out during some mornings.

friday last week had an engineer out who put me on a different cable, and sync dropped to 3.8!! he tried another pair on monday 3.9, and put me back on my original (or so he claimed) and got 4.0 (this time without crosstalk!?).

Anyway, im waiting for Tier 3 ... still, and Openreach are being a right bunch of gits to deal with and seem unable to pass the ticket to a 'broadband engineer' - given my previous experience with Tier3 im willing to believe that since I have a functional connection they will tell me to take a long walk off a short plank.

my last idea is to move to a smaller package if they wont send a guy or dont solve it, but really i'd much prefer the speed.

      thx, Dave.

well, its nothing to do with you re. the BB connection. If its faulty pairs then Sky should raise the fault to BT to get resolved....

silly question, but have you tried the test socket just to make sure its nothing at ur end?

      Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

yep, all local kit was tested...

other (ahem) router, produced fractionally higher sync
and test socket bypassing my faceplate produced a lower sync

      Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

it should be logged for a tie pair shift so hopefully that'll fix it...

and it'll go to BT Wholesale, not Openreach...

Angry Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

      Hi All,

      bad news here guys.

BT Openreach - voice line working properly. refuse to help (even though they caused issue)

BT Wholesale - checked and you have a nice 3.9mbit sir. no errors seen. No comment on why my attenuation went up by 15!

SKY - BT Wholesale said no problem, we cant do anything as you have a connection. Claim not have escalation paths for such things.

i've logged a complaint now with BT, but im not hopeful.

I was a happy punter till a few weeks ago, now i will have to cancel my broadband and go back to Virgin cablemodem (and pay lots more for the privilege).

-- has ANYONE had this? and were you able to successfully argue a proper qualified guy to check/fix the connection?

      thx, dave.

      Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

BT have set a rules that a fault must meet before they'll actually do anything...

basically any speed over 512KB is considered BB so as ur getting over 3MB - BT will wash their hands of it....harsh and completely non-professional if you ask me but Sky should just throw it to BT for a TPS and get it resolved

      Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

      Tie Pair Shift.

A phone line has two tie cables - one for voice and one for data. These pairs can become faulty and so new ones will be needed to hopefully resolve the issue.

Might get a better explanation at some point...

      Re: Openreach Slowdown Sync Speed

just got through to tier3 on hot transfer (2nd time this month woohoo).

guy logging ticket for BT team .. strange since lady I spoke to last time in T3 said no special escalation routes exist.

he confirmed a TPS had been done - problem almost certainly exists in the cable swap done upstream of my house in some green cabs.

im going to have to try hard to convince em to come and see me, because I priced up virgin media today (replace sky+, bt phone, sky bb), and it's not a pretty story financially.
