      Internet Radio download usage

      Hi all,
I'm thinking of getting a internet radio. I'm currently on the mid package. Does anyone know if using one will eat into my 40 gig monthly download allowance.

      Many thanks

      Steve

      Hi,
I am a Presenter/Station Controller for skyuserradio and the terms and conditions for an internet radio station are quite strict so I would look into the ins and outs first before going ahead and maybe try with us first and see if you like it read front post on www.skyuserradio.co.uk .

      Re: Internet Radio download usage

      Hi,
iam not wanting to set up my own radio station. I want to buy a radio so I can listen to internet radio stations from around the uk and world.

I was just wondering how much of my monthly usage allowance would be used up by a internet radio.

      Cheers

      Steve

I didnt realise you could get such a thing, but it doesnt surprise me in this day and age. We all broadcast / listen via our pcs. Around 80mb for a 2 hour show.

      check this link
      Amazon.co.uk: Bush TR2015WIFI Radio: Electronics & Photo

You can buy radios that connect to the internet via your router. I was thinking of getting one for my kitchen (router is up in loft).

      Re: Internet Radio download usage

Average Radio stream at 128Kbps is 168 hours per week on a 40GB limit.

So if you just streamed the radio all week and did no other internet stuff you would squeeze in under 40GB for the month.

If you remember to turn of the radio when you arent listening I doubt you'll have any issues (in any case 40gB isnt an exact rule.)

      Re: Internet Radio download usage

Hi, there is a simple formula for this -

Divide the stream Kbps rate by 8 and you will get the Kilobytes/second usage - e.g. BBC Stations generally broadcast online at about 40Kbps = 18Mb per hour.

So with a limit of 40Gb per month (allegedly ) you should have no worries - listening to BBC Five Live for 8 hours per day, every day will use only 4.32Gb per month.

      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The only problem with the Roku was that it didn't play Realplayer streams which were something like 70% of the radio broadcasts (they may have since updated it, I'm not sure!). I will now make a shameless plug for my company's (Acoustic Energy) WiFi radio which was the world's first all-in-one tabletop internet radio -

      http://www.acoustic-energy.co.uk/Pro.../WiFi_info.asp

As a SkyUser member who has shared much of the distress along with others here at getting service from Sky I can offer a discount code as a minor compensation if you were interested in getting one of them - "Skyuser" = 30% off, cheapest you will be able to get it anywhere!

I may well be in breach of many rules here for that, if so I will gladly delete this post! (I'm the Product Manager and run the company website - so set up the discount codes etc. was my own choice to offer this).

      Cheers,

      Jim.
