      Switch Over Day Today!!!!!

Hello everyone, i'm new to these forums and firstly i have to say thank you. My knowledge of broadband is now ten fold after a few days reading all th usefull info on this site.

I'm currently with BT and had a change over day of today but alas, my BT is still on.

When i decieded to migrate to Sky i found Skyuser.co.uk after i'd already signed up and was a little concerned on the service quality experienced. My reason for moving over was my BT speed was between 2mb - 3mb and i thought i may as well pay 10 for it instead of 26.

After i followed the tip of removing wire 3&4 from the extensions i was amazed that i got sync speeds of 6.4mb with a download rate of 5mb. I couldn't beleive it. But now i worried that when i switch over it could be worse.

I'm a fair way from the exchange about 3km. My line Atten is 47db and have a sgn ratio of about 10, this was syncing at about 6meg.

I don't expect i'll be put on adsl 2, i just hope they don't cap me at a low rate.

Anyway i thought i would let you all know how my migration went and what speeds i get on the otherside. I hoping things improve tomorrow and i get switched over, or i might start regreting leaving BT after finding twice the speed i have had for the last 12 months.

Again thanks for all the hard work people put in to make this site great.

you'll be set to 8MB/gdmt more than likely from the start so IF you have any issues try master/test socket etc before calling Sky otherwise you will get capped

      Re: Switch Over Day Today!!!!!

Ok, So i woke up this morning and my bt was off. Plugged in the netgear router and sure enough i was connected to sky. A quick check on sync speed and it appeared to be 8mb. So i ran a speed check which seem to take ages to load up and it showed a download speed of .3mb. My sgn ratio was only at 6.4. So i thought this might be the problem. I also turned off upnp. After i rebooted the router it sync-ed at 8meg, sgn ratio was 7.4 and i had a download speed of around 7meg.

Hopefully it will remain stable but i'll post my stats later to see what you think.

1 question. Is it better to connect to the master socket and then wireless to my pc or wired into router from my extension????

      Thanks

Ok, I would like you to take a look at my stats.

I've been at work all day and left it downloading a large 5gb file.

It appears stable at the moment but it looks like i have a lot of errors.

What do yu think??? Any advice???

I will connect it to the master socket tonight and download some more.

And a speed test only achieves 2.8 meg now. Is this beacuse of the time of night...11.45

Any reccomendations....i've been getting 8meg all day.

sync has dropped and errors are huge so definately something going on there - is the Sky TV splitter in use or is that just filter with router/phone? try it with purely router only, and also try the other filters that came in the box cause at the mo thats a bit rubbish....

After the last set of stats, i rebooted the router. It's still in the test socket with a phone plugged in. But the sig to noise ratio increased to about 7.4.

In regards to my wireless connection........ I have a cordless digital phone and a video sender that has four channels. Do these work on the same freqency and if so which is the best wireless channel to use. I'm getting 54mbs but sometimes it drops to 11mb.

      Thanks
