No Dial Tone, No Internet Connection!?!?!

      Help...

We have had a pretty uninterupted broadband service for sometime now and have been generally happy, but over the bank holiday weekend we discovered that we no longer have an internet connection, the green i light on the router has disappeared and also we NO longer have a dial tone on our phone line. As soon as we disconnected the sky broadband router from the phone line our dialling tone re-appears and we are able to make/receive calls again.

We contacted BT and got them to test the line and they said there were no faults on the line. We borrowed a neighbour's phone to check that our phone wasn't broken but even their phone wouldn't work. BT claim it's nothing to do with them and must be a problem with Sky Broadband, they said it seems as though some equipment is conflicting with our phone line. Why would this suddenly happen when everything was working fine for months. Sky have just told me to do the usual things: change filters (done that), reboot router (done that), unplug everything (done that). Totally fed up now.

Is anyone else having this problem? (Our exchange is Sanderstead by the way). Does anyone know what I can do next as Sky are telling me the service in my area is up and running. They keep passing the buck so it seems as though the only way to sort it is to go back to BT but I'd rather not.

Any advise would be really appreciated.

      Thank you

It sounds like your router may have gone pop! if it has a short circuit on the modem side it could short out the BT line killing the dialing tone. Only way to be sure be to borrow another router you dont even have to set it up to connect, just plug it in and see if it kills the line. I had the same problem once with a cordless phone base unit, it happened after a storm. I complained to BT but they said theres nothing wrong with the line, turned out my phone was stuffed! It also killed the dial tone on all the other phones in the house.

I'd call through to Technical Support (for what it's worth) and hopefully you get a decent operator who will run diagnostics on your connection. If it's the router, they'll be able to tell. If it's your port at the exchange they can also tell. If it's a provisioning problem then Sky Provisioning will be able to resolve it.
