Can I change the speed cap?

My connection used to drop out regularly. The Sky tech capped the line to stop the problem. Originally, I understood that he capped it at 4 meg but he actually capped it at 2 meg. All runs well now but I just have that sneeking suspicion that the cap could be tweeked a bit higher without upsetting things.
Can I do this myself or is it only a Sky tech job?
      Is it worth trying anyway?
My stats are fairly static at - Connection speed = 2016 kbps, attenuation = 61.0 db and noise margin = 17.5db.
I am on a midi package - 8 mbps max. Windows xp pro plus sp2.
      Has anyone any thoughts?

No. If Sky have capped your sync speed then only they can uncap you.

Have you tried to improve your wiring, as recommended on the forum? Have you looked at your detailed stats?

Thanks guys for your quick replies.
I thought that perhaps there was no way to change the cap.
I have tried to inprove my wiring and made a few more tweeks noted in this forum - which has been generally helpful. If nothing else it lets you know that you are not alone in this digital world.

with an attenuation like that removing the cap would prob only hinder the service...
