But then once you are connected your monthly payments are probably alot cheaper than other providers. It most likely covers the cost of the "free" wireless router that not all other companys supply. I've been with Sky since November paying 5 a month for 8mb were as I was paying BT 17.99 for 2mb. 116 saving already so I am as happy as a sandboy!

You may find that other ISPs do have a charge, but it is not charged unless you leave during your contract. This page from PLUSNET makes it clear that you have to stay for 12 months to receive free set up, others are similar. As Koala5 says, you will find it difficult to find a better deal than you have, especially on Base, where you receive set up, a free 60 router and connection for life, all for a one off payment of 30.

Re: Why Do Sky Want 30 To Connect Bb?

I got connected to the mid package yesterday.

When i ordered i was originally going to go on max and i asked why the 30 charge had just appeared. The CS rep said it had been free up until the 27th July. I ordered on the 28th. The charge is what BT charge them for moving the connection in the exchange.

As the posts above say it's still a good deal.

The 30 offer ends on 14th Sept. I think it will probably go up then. Previously if you subscribed to MAX, the set up was free, I don't think that is the case now.

Re: Why Do Sky Want 30 To Connect Bb?

If you have a cable connection, you are doing the right thing. It may be more expensive, but cable will always be better than a system that depends on a phone line. Virgin are desperate to stop people moving to Sky and are giving out some ridiculous deals.

Re: Why Do Sky Want 30 To Connect Bb?

Other ISP's are all doing different things to get money out of you to balence the "free equipment".

Virgin have gone to premium rate phone lines for broadband support, BT has gone to 18 month minimum contracts for the basic package and AOL and Talk Talk have gone now to 24 month minimum contracts.

Frankly the sky price is great and should hopefully put pressure on all the ISP's to drop their prices.

PS make sure your cable modem can support 20 meg as quite a lot of them can't and so people haven't been able to connect at the speed they thought they were getting.

Re: Why Do Sky Want 30 To Connect Bb?

When I first signed up with Sky I went on the Connect package and had to pay a 40 fee. I guess you could say that part of this fee is for somebody going into your exchange and do the neccassary. It will not be anyone from Sky doing this so somewhere somebody has to pay for this to be done.
