Sky BB activated today = Slow speed + Higher line attenuation

Hi everyone, first post, been lurking for a while though.

My Sky Broadband mid package was activated earlier today about 12 - 1.30pm-ish.

I was previously with AOL, with 2mb and 38 line attenuation.
Now with sky my line attenuation is 51!!!! so havn't got the speed I was expecting. Just been doing speed tests and my speed has been getting lower over the afternoon I think now only about 600kps.

BT telephone number test say my line is capable of upto 6mb
Have the SKY engineers messed up?? which has caused the line attenuation to increase.

No. Attenuation will change depending on the ADSL mode. Moving from AOL to Sky G.DMT will increase it by a few db. Also, different routers will report a different figure for the same connection. Those two things could easily account for the rise you've seen.

You are syncing at 4096kbps which is a little lower than the best you could hope for with that attenuation. Looking at your line errors though you clearly have a noisy line which is holding the sync speed down. See the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on diagnosing and fixing line issues.

However, that's not going to be reducing your download speed to the extent you report though. If you're getting only 600kbps throughput then I'd guess you're connected wirelessly?
