Connection Problems - Wireless - Neighbours

On the phone to Sky for an hour last night and still not sure if I have a problem. For the past week I have been having problems getting connected keep getting the message "internet explorer cannot display this webpage". I've tried all the usual things over the past week. On my router the 3 lights have always remained lit and my connection on my laptop has been at least good or 4/5. Is there anything I should be checking that could affect this also I've beginning to pick-up my neighbours wireless connections as well. Could that have an effect on my connection?? Any suggestions would be appreciated to save me having to phone Sky!!

So to clarify is your laptop connecting to the router and then all the time there are drop-outs? When you are right next to the router with your laptop does it work properly?

Do you believe the problem is fully down to the wireless connection? If it is have you changed the wireless channel, this may help with you neighbour also having wireless

Thanks for that. Yes you are correct...last night I had my Laptop right next to the router and it still wouldn't work. My router is upstairs where I use my laptop downstairs. I haven't changed any channels....would that help??

It could do if your neighbors channel is close to yours it has to be worth trying.

Re: Connection Problems - Wireless - Neighbours

It is very weird that when you were right next to the router it still did not help. Normally if you were close it would be perfect even if your neighbour had wireless to because the strongest signal would be coming from yours. It is still worth trying changing the channel. Better still would you be able to test it wired up to the router and see what happens. If you still have problems connected directly to the router then you can eliminate wireless as being the problem.

Re: Connection Problems - Wireless - Neighbours

Silly thought here, but have you tried connection using the ethernet cable to ensure that your setup is correct, it may be simply a firewall issue?

I connect my laptop via cable through choice but each time I turn my laptop on I get the choice of 4 wireless connections in my vicinity, one a sky connection with no security which it can connect to.

I would think there is another issue here related to windows.

Re: Connection Problems - Wireless - Neighbours

I'm having a very similar problem - my wireless connection drops at random intervals (usually every 2-3 minutes) I've tried everything I can think of but it has not helped (see my post here)

I rang Sky (was on the phone for over an hour) and they insist that it's a problem with my wireless card (see my post - I don't think it is my wireless card) here's the good bit, they said they wouldn't be prepared to help any further unless I purchase a Sky certified wireless card for my lappy! Bloody cheek!

After speaking to his supervisor and then threatening to cancel I got the cancellation dept. to agree to send me a replacement router as I have ruled every other option out and that is the only thing I can think would be the problem!

I'll keep you updated via my post
