Connection dropping / no access to settings / slow speed, the whole lot.

      First of all, "Hello everyone"

As you have probably guessed from the thread title I'm yet another user experiencing problems with Sky BB. First of all I'll give you the small details...

      • Package = Max
      • Exchange distance = 570 metres (0.57 km)
      • Current speed = See below
      • Connection by - Ethernet cable

Now for the problems are there are a few of them...

      1. Connection keeps dropping, I'm told this is very common. I consider myself lucky if I go more than 1hr without loosing the connection. Each time I have to reboot the router (continue below)
      2. I go to restart the router and I cannot connect via 192.168.0.1 so I'm forced to cut the power to the router.
      3. Slow speeds, now I know Max is upto 16mb however with me living so close to the exchange surely I can achieve better speeds than the above.

Now I phoned Sky last Saturday and got told what I expected. "change the filters", "try the test socket", "unplug other phone connections" etc etc etc... So I did them all bar the test socket as we don't have one, 5 days later I'm still having the same problems.

I'm getting a little sick of this now because every (yes every) time I turn my PC on I have to reset the router because surprise surprise there is no connection.

I am planning on posting stats however the router has only been up 30mins so I'll give it an hour or two with a bit of luck I wont have to restart it.

Any help will be much appreciated, thank you.

      Wow swift reply.

Just had to cut power to the router to restart it (again!). Current up time is 00:03:40, how long should I leave it before I can get a decent set of stats together?

      Thank you.

      Hi there
I had the same problems when I first joined Sky BB, follow the instructions you can find on this site in the Skyuser useful links and the Sky BB help forums. It worked for me and it saved me from cancelling Sky BB. I now have a reasonable speed but more importantly a stable connection.
      Good luck

ideally overnight and have it set to actually use the connection to get traffic flowing - altho initial stats wouldnt go a miss as it'd give an initial indication as to whats going on...

Re: Connection dropping / no access to settings / slow speed, the whole lot.

ur borderline as to whether being on ADSL2+ is beneficial - have u tried changing mode to gdmt and seeing this helps? I'm surprised u've not been capped yet if u've logged a fault to Sky (might happen over night)

still think ur router is knackered tho - id call up and say all the lights have gone out after a power cut and need a new one
