      Re: Connection Keeps dropping

I am sure there are plenty of others that are having the same problem as us naggis, it is just so frustrating going around in circles.

Spoke to BT gain today and reported a fault on the line saying that I can hear a static sound only to be told that a phone line engineer would be sent out and would not be able to fix the broadband problem. So cancelled the callout! rang BT again, got passed around various departments to be told again that they cannot help, Sky need to get in touch with them.

Rang Sky back and they are now sending me a new router as they weren't picking up my IP address so they thought it was a faulty router. I did mention this to the T3 last night but he didn't think there was anything wrong with it. before my problems started I read a thread on here saying that if you don't put the router on its feet it could damage it. I didn't put the feet on until about 2 months ago and previous to this the router was extremely hot to touch so it may have had some heat damage.

Hopefully the new router will solve the problem. I will post back on here letting you know.

      Re: Connection Keeps dropping

      Hi Staceym
Talked to level 3 techie today - after only 4 days wait. He thinks that my line can't take 8mb so he capped it at 4mb. This seems to have made an improvement - sync rate up by 200, attenuation up to 62 from 15. The dreaded noise margin is down a bit at 6.8.
Over the last 24 hours I have been closely monitoring the router stats and did a couple of reboots during the busy time last evening. The result is that the line was much more stable BEFORE the Sky techie did his stuff.
So I would certainly recommend that you go through the process outlined in the in this forum. At least it will make the best of what you have even if it doesnt sort it completely.
The techie tells me that Sky have taken on many more of his kind and are making good roads into the backlog and that the problems are getting solved. Hmmmm, we will see won't we.

      Re: Connection Keeps dropping

According to your posted stats your Attn was 49, if you saw 15 at some time that was probably the 15.5 bug, but I think your Attn going up to 62 is a bit worrying. I think this suggests that your line is deteriorating. Also, when a line is capped the noise margin normally goes up, not down. Maybe someone with more knowledge would like to comment, but I don't think your problems are over

      Hi Isitme
You mention the 15.5 noise bug - what is that? Can you tell me more. My attenuation seems to stick at 15.5 after doing a software reboot. Pulling the plug on the router takes to attenuation up to 62.0. At present my stats are - sync 2080, attenuation 62.0, NM 8.9. I am not using the net intensively and it seems to be running without dropout. But I will give it a bit more stick later (10.00 or so) and see what the story is then. At present I am connecting using a fairly long telephone extension which is obviously pulling things back. I am in the process of getting a netgear adaptor for the desktop which will allow me to resite the router next to the master socket.

      Re: Connection Keeps dropping

Isitme. Found a number of posts on the 15.5 bug. Seems its not uncommon but nothing to worry about.
