Hia folks. New poster here. I've had a look through the website and you folks are doing a grand job.

I previously had a 2mb connection with pipex but changed th Sky as they said I could get 4mb. etcetc

I'm concerned that the SNR is a little low and there is nothing more I can do about it. The main symptom is the extremely low download speed of 50kb/sec which makes my Guild Wars life impossible. Im 3 days into this 10 day trial thing but I sent a form in yesterday to SKy's TS and have had nothing back in 18 hours. Any ideas folks?

You are synced with the exchange at 7.2mb so something is going weird if you are only getting 50kb. But your stats are only 14 minutes worth which dosen't give a true idea of whats going on. You need a good few hours worth of stats with the internet in use during that period.

Yeah, it's kind of difficult with my 1 year old wanting to play in the master socket! Is the SNR too low? Others on the site keep quoting 6.5-6.9 as a minimum but mine is way lower. I'll keep it on for another couple of hours as it is and let them watch Dora for while.

I know that the house next door has SKY and was told that broadband would only work from their master socket (not the test socket though). I get similar results as above from my extensions. I'll update later. Thanks in the meantime though.

SNR 6.1 is borderline if it drops any lower you are likely to disconnect. You can set it higher with mognuts but it may impact your speed slightly doing that. I would get a full set of stats first.

Are you new to Sky, if so you will still be going through your 10 day training period as you are on Connect.

This can be a very frustrating time and can see high speeds one minute, low speeds the next and even disconnections.

I'm still new to Sky ie day 3 of 10 but I'm a bit peeved that I don't get any high speeds - just dial up speed! Will post more stats later.

Re: 50kb/sec is not broadband! I need some help!

Ok, first off, you are not on Connect, you're probably on Mid, might want to change the profile section in your settings.

Second, you can use Mognut's utility to force a higher SNR, you will lose a bit of speed if you do so, but if your download speeds are only 50k/s it won't make it go lower.
Oh, make sure you read what to change before playing with it!!!

And finally, have you tried other downloads?
I usually get 400-600k/s on normal websites, 1m/s on good torrents, but Fileplanet last night was giving me 20k/s, so it might be worth trying some different sites first...

Re: 50kb/sec is not broadband! I need some help!

I tried to drop the target noise margin to 5 = same upload/download stats and the same 30-50kB/sec download speed. I use Guild Wars for my speed as this is the game I play the most, not at this speed though! Other downloads, like demos etc all come in the same speed bracket.

sorry but why are they not on connect? 448kbps up is connect upload speed

you are in your first 10 days and all your modem and exchange do is try different speeds out - also 50k/sec is broadband, admittidly 512k but is is broadband.

things will get better, my speeds during the 10 days were very bad but it got better towards the end

Re: 50kb/sec is not broadband! I need some help!

Well, I've just spent 30 mins on the phone to Sky TS with no real waiting around for an operator. They got me to reset the router, reboot the PC and then log in to the router so I could see my speed received at 7mb.

My complaint was that I can't download at that speed, and that DU Meter, Namesco and Guild Wars are all saying that my speed is 30kb/sec - wired or as wireless. The operator basically said that as the router is receiving this speed then there is nothing they can do - "Its a computer thing, not related to them". They suggested me checking for Adware/Spyware but beyond that they couldn't help. Aint that swell....

My computer setting are all the same since Pipex gave me 2Mbs so I'm not too enthused with my 17/month dial-up connection.
