you say you should be able to get 4 meg, well that could be a config issue. Do a Netstat procedure, if this shows less than 10 TCP entries, then its a speed and config issue for either the Sky Tier 2 or Tier 3, depending on your package.

If there are more than 10 TCP entries, then run a virus/spyware scan, then check your downloads.

You want to raise it, try 7. Raise it if its still slow, keep moving up until you get better speeds.

Raise your noise margin to 7-9db and monitor it from there.

If you are paying 17 a month you are on Connect and in a 10 day training period!

If you are in Portlethan Aberdeen then Sky's base, mid and max packages are not available so you are on Connect, hence the 10 day training.

Sky will not touch any faults on the line until the 10 days are up.

Forgot to mention that TS asked me to Netstat - I have 2 entries. local host-27 and microsoft-ds. I have tried the TCPOptimizer program from this site but that didn't change anything.

Agree with all you say, and the TS lady said that I am receiving a good speed for the package. Gee thanks, lady.

Re: 50kb/sec is not broadband! I need some help!

Increased NSR to 7 then 8 and my speed noted in the router drops to 6.5k. This doesn't alter my download speed.

I'm just wondering if we're chasing a red herring here. There seems to be some other problem with me getting anything near broadband speeds. Could it be something to do on with my computer/system?

You were going to repost your stats after a few hours?

      1) are you connected to the master socket or an extension?
      2) Have you got any extensions in the house?

The stats above were from a master test socket. I've since then gone to the master socket so that I can use the telephone on the bedroom extension, and the extension in the kitchen.

I found i did have reduced facility on a 15ft telephone cable extension connected to the kitchen but thanks to this site I realise that it was not the best place for the router.

Since then, back on the master socket. I have ordered up a master socket split faceplate but won;t be here for a couple of days. Thanks.
