Would I be advised to do this too? I have a wired connection so no need for wireless, I don;t however, want to mess about with settings when I'm not sure what I'm doing.

As long as yu have WPA enabled (which by default it is), then there is no need to turn off wireless.

A dead simple way if you do want to turn it off but without messing with the settings is to unscrew the white antenna aerial on the router.

But it would be safe just to leave well alone if I have WPA enabled?

Re: How do i turn off wireless?

as i say, as long as you haven't already messed with the settings 'yes' (and as long as you didn't leave the little card with your wirless key on it in the recycle bin!!!)

Unscrewing the aerial won't do any harm at all either so your are definitely safe to do that.

Dont mess with the settings if you aren't confident.

Leaving completly alone will be fine subject to the 2 caveats at the start of this post.

Ok, I'm ok on the first one, haven't touched settings at all, the 2nd one, I never even took the little red card out of the box, was I supposed to do something with it?

That doesn't matter as they are on the router as well.

Re: How do i turn off wireless?

the card just told you the key (password) to be able to connect wirelessly.

If you've binned that then (if someone nicked your rubbish) then someone would be able to hijack your connection.

If you still have the box and the card is in there (its the size of a business card) then you are totally fine.

my point was if the card had been binned, then someone could access the connection wirelessly if they found it in the rubbish (low risk, but still a risk).
