heeeeeelp!! newly activated but really slow :((

      Hello

If anyone could help me I would be eternally grateful

I signed up for connect broadband as that is the only one available in my area (penistone near Barnsley).

I can get on the net through a wireless router but it is sooooo slow, i rang up tech support and they got to me to turn modem on and off, reset.

i have tried it on main BT line and also the test line by unscrewing box (after overcoming a few blonde moments!)

i eventually got told that i will have to wait for 10 days as they may gradually increase my speed as they ran a test and its capable of 4 megs.

i got these stats if that helps ?

      Router Status

      Account Name
      Firmware Version V1.02.28

      ADSL Port
      MAC Address 00:18:4D:FD:C8:19
      IP Address 90.207.108.77
      Network Type PPPoA
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255
      Gateway IP Address 89.200.128.194
      Domain Name Server 87.86.189.16
      195.40.1.36

      LAN Port
      MAC Address 00:18:4D:FD:C8:18
      IP Address 192.168.0.1
      DHCP On
      IP Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

      Modem
      ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
      Modem Status Connected
      DownStream Connection Speed 288 kbps
      UpStream Connection Speed 288 kbps
      VPI 0
      VCI 38

      Wireless Port
      Name (SSID) SKY72424
      Region Europe
      Channel 6
      Wireless AP Enabled
      Broadcast Name Enabled

any help would be great as not sure whether just to cancel as I need the internet to help me work as i am sort of self employed.

      thanks a lot

      Katie

It's looking quite possible that BT have messed up and put you in a 256k product rather than IPStream-MAX (up to 8Mb).

Confirms my earlier suspicions, you've definetly been put on the wrong BT package.
You'll need to call up and get through to Tier 2 so they can change you over, alternatively you may be better off speaking to order status / provisioning.

Re: fao iamnottheenemy! my stats, sorry i have to do new thread

thanks i rang them up and they said that it is defintely set up for 8meg

they said that they drip feed the speed through when you first sign up because if it went straight in to 8 megs then it may crash?!

"ronnie" in ireland said that expect to see the speed increase slowly over the ten day activation period. does this sound true or have i been fobbed off?!

yup its true connect uses bt line and exchange so there is a 10 day training period and it will then give you max line after this [ie if your line can connect without error at 8meg then thats what u'll get but if it can only handle 1 meg then thats what u will get

yes that is true for connect, but i think its not the answer for your problem.

What sky's system says you are set up on and what BT have done (it is BT who provide teh connect service) is a different matter. sky need to refer your case to BT to fix.
