Using web based mail

I don't think this has been asked before, but sorry if it has.
Can anyone tell me if there's a reason why on my own pc I can log on and access my email page, but not actually download emails when using web based email? I usually use OE on my own pc for this, but thought I'd give the portal a go instead. It tells me there's no emails. but I can see the task bar new email icon for OE so I know there is.

I was visiting my daughter over the week end, she's with AOL, so I typed in SkyBB's URL, logged on and could access my emails no problem via Sky's own site. Is this the way it works?

I do know that you can access your Isp's site for emails anywhere in the world the same way I did at my daughters.

Why I'm asking is the reason as described above, plus the Sky techy told me they'd rather you used their own portal as they can then help you if you get stuck.

yes it is, the point of the Sky BB portal is that you can access ur email anywhere....if it works mind
