Re: Control another computer via the router

One program that will assist you in this area is VNC.

You can find it here - RealVNC remote control software

Be aware VNC has some issues on the new Vista Operating System. You need to download the Free edition of VNC unless you wish to pay for the Personal Edition, features are limited though.

There are remote control systems out there as well.

VPN is for accessing PC's on another network, for example within a closed Business network.

Re: Control another computer via the router

Regarding VNC - if you download and use UltraVNC, free, you should be sound. As boab says, there are Vista issues with RealVNC.

Link for UltraVNC is Download your free customer support software

iannufc you bet to that one.

Windows Remote Desktop will only work if the machine to initiate the control from is using XP Professional I believe.

I know you said you wanted to control via router , but an easy method is to use
      `Logmein for free` https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp

They also have an VPN control program as well.
